Paris, November 2, 2009
Following the Proxima Mobile call for projects last July, the Internet Usage Delegation* has selected the proposal from the Proxi-Produit consortium. Made up of GS1 France (creator of the CodeOnline service), SBW (a specialist in the development of mobile applications), and AFNIC (registry for the .fr ccTLD), this consortium developed a project that would enable access to precise and detailed information on fast moving consumer goods (FMCG).
On July 16, Nathalie Kosciusko-Morizet, Secretary for the Digital Economy issued the Proxima Mobile call for projects. With a budget of €10 million, this major project is part of the digital component of the recovery plan dealing with applications and innovative uses of the web and especially the Internet. Its objective is to support the development of free general interest applications and services accessible from mobile phones connected to the Internet.

The Partners
-
SBW is the project coordinator, working in particular on the multi-OS portal, the bar code reader and the connection between applications targeted consumer requests, manufacturers and institutional databases.
-
GS1 France offers CodeOnLine , a mobile services portal for manufacturers, allowing them to publish targeted, up-to-date product information for consumers. This information is the substance of the Proxi-service product.
-
AFNIC is co-architect of the infrastructure and acts as trusted third party, operating a part of user contact databases to provide Proxi-Produit users a service that respects privacy and guaranteeing the protection of personal data. The registry for the .fr ccTLD is naturally interested in the Internet of the future, and its applications. Proxi-Produit is a tremendous opportunity to leverage our expertise and build an application for the future with our partners.
