Training of information technology trainers (Formation de formateurs en Technologies de l'Information - FFTI)

More than fifteen week-long FFTI training courses have been run since 1998, mainly in French-speaking Africa, in partnership with other organisations involved in the transfer of knowledge. The aim of this training is to allow participating countries to achieve a certain level of technological autonomy.

This initiative has made it possible to create an incubator for local trainers in these developing countries, which has subsequently legitimised the creation of training courses delivered by these individuals.

These FFTI workshops are prepared and implemented thanks to the combined efforts of voluntary members of the International College, the steering committee of the host institution and multilateral partners.

On average, around fifteen engineers are trained per session.

Two levels of training

The experience accumulated has allowed two levels of training to be set up:

  • FFTI1: courses that allow general knowledge of NICTs to be acquired, with a particular emphasis on network administration;
  • FFTI2: advanced courses on IPv6, DNSsec, etc...

Last sessions:

  • 19 - 24 May 2003: FFTI 2 in Rabat, Morocco - Mohammedia Engineering School
  • 22 - 27 September 2003: FFTI 1 in Conakry, Guinea - University of Conakry
  • 27 September - 2 October 2004 : FFTI2 in Tunis, Tunisia
  • June 2005 : FFTI1 in Conakry, Guinea
  • 20 - 25 October 2005 : FFTI2 in Conakry, Guinea
  • June 2006 : FFTI1 in Antananarivo, Madagascar
  • 22 - 27 October 2007 : FFTI2 in Nouakchott, Mauritania
