One of the missions of AFNIC is to foresee Internet evolutions.

In that order, AFNIC has set up a technology watch and a Research & Development centre.
It carries out research and development experiments, either on its own initiative, or at the request of French authorities or international partners.

In this section, AFNIC has provided an overview of the various studied topics and projects: DNSSEC, aimed at increasing security by means of DNS; the Internet of Things and the ONS, Object Naming Service; ENUM (RNRT project / Archive) or how you can be contacted by telephone, mobile and email by means of a single number; IPv6, the next Internet protocol; and generic NIC, a site aimed at providing assistance with the formation or reorganisation of bodies for managing an Internet Top Level Domain.

AFNIC shares its expertise by participating in many international groups and meetings and with tutorials.
