Our members

Afnic brings together some one hundred public and private players concerned by the technical development of the internet and the way its uses are evolving, in order to shape and construct its future, both in France and beyond.

Businesses, trade organisations, public bodies, teachers, digital researchers and internet users: Afnic gives its members the means to influence the way the internet evolves in France. Below is a list of members who have given their explicit consent to having their names or contact details posted. The association is also a privileged forum for sharing and exchanging on the major technical and societal phenomena linked to digital technology through its events, publications, working groups and extranet.

The founding members

Our founding members are (Inria) (National Institute for Research in Computer Science and Control) and the French State, represented by the Ministry for Electronic Communications, the Ministry for Industry and the Ministry for Research.

Registrar members

As valued commercial partners, many registrars are members of Afnic, although membership is not mandatory.  A special Registrars consultative committee meets twice a year to discuss with Afnic ohttp://en/products-and-services/fr-and-associated-services/become-a-registrar-afnic-accreditation/n major ongoing issues as well as on strategic orientations that can be proposed to the board of trustees. User members

Internet users, whether legal persons (companies) or natural persons (private individuals) can join Afnic. A Users consultative committee meets twice a year to discuss with Afnic on major ongoing issues as well as on strategic orientations that can be proposed to the board of trustees. International correspondent members

The international organisations belonging to the Afnic International College are members of the association. The days of International College allow members to meet together with Afnic once a year to validate and work on projects relating to the management of the internet and based on co-development and solidarity principles.

Honorary members

The title of honorary member is bestowed by the board of trustees on persons who render or have rendered notable services to the association. 

  • Lala Andriamampianina (granted posthumously) Granted posthumously for his service as Chair of the International College and Afnic trustee from 2013 to 2019 (decision of the Board of Trustees of 7 April 2020)
  • Jean-Yves Babonneau For his active contribution in developing the .fr as Afnic’s CEO from its founding until June 2005 (decision of the Board of Trustees of 28 April 2006)
  • Alain Caristan For his work as CTO of Afnic and Head of the International College for 10 years (decision of the Board of Trustees of 7 April 2020)
  • Jean-Claude Gorichon For his work as Chairman of Afnic from June 2004 to March 2010 (decision of the Board of Trustees of 16 April 2010) 
  • Jean-Michel Hubert For his work as Chairman of the Afnic Foundation for Digital Solidarity for four years (2015-2019) (decision of the Board of Trustees of 14 June 2019)
  • Annie Renard For her contribution to the development of the internet in France (decision of the Board of Trustees of 7 November 2003)
  • Emmanuel Sartorius For his work as Chairman of the Board of Trustees for six years (June 2013 – June 2019) (decision of the Board of Trustees of 14 June 2019)
  • Pierre Vassout For the various positions held over 14 years within Afnic (decision of the Board of Trustees of 13 February 2014)
