Held in the premises of FrenchWeb.fr, the workshop on domain branding and management was attended by some thirty participants. The purpose of the workshop was to allow participants to improve their understanding of how to manage their names and / or brands and thus set up the best naming strategy.

The discussions were moderated by:

  • Marcel Botton, the founder of Nomen, which addressed the key points of a good branding and naming strategy
  • Sabine Lipovetsky, a lawyer specializing in trademark protection with the Kahn & Associates law firm, adding an extremely useful legal perspective to the discussions;
  • And Loïc Damilaville, Deputy CEO of AFNIC, who developed the themes related to the marketing value of domain names.

About Afnic

Afnic is the acronym for Association Française pour le Nommage Internet en Coopération, the French Network Information Centre. The registry has been appointed by the French government to manage domain names under the .fr Top Level Domain. Afnic also manages the .re (Reunion Island), .pm (Saint-Pierre and Miquelon), .tf (French Southern and Antarctic Territories), .wf (Wallis and Futuna) and .yt (Mayotte) French Overseas TLDs.

Afnic is also the back-end registry for the companies as well as local and regional authorities that have chosen to have their own TLD, such as .paris, .bzh, .alsace, .corsica, .mma, .ovh, .leclerc and .sncf.

Established in 1997 and based in Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines, Afnic currently has nearly 90 employees.
