The 4th edition of the Dot Award contest – open to students or groups of students who have designed their website – was marked by the participation of more than a hundred entries from France, Lithuania, El Salvador, Portugal and various regions in which the Catalan language is spoken. An international jury chose the winners from among the websites selected after the first phase of the contest held in each country or region taking part. Three prizes were awarded in each category: Best Content, Best Design and Best Use of ICT tools. A French website, www.social-bordeaux.fr, won the 3rd prize in the “Best Content” category.

3rd prize in the “Best Content” Category attributed to www.social-bordeaux.fr

The 3rd prize in the “Best Content” category was awarded to social-bordeaux.fr, a website designed and developed by six students aged 20-26 years old. Launched in September 2013, the site was created as part of an academic project, proposed by the IT department of the Bordeaux 1 Technological University Institute (IUT), as part of the students’ training course in computer technology and project management.

The purpose of social-bordeaux.fr is to identify the various Twitter accounts concerning the city of Bordeaux posted by registered site users, the accounts then being submitted for approval by visitors. A genuinely collaborative tool, the site also ranks the Twitter accounts by category, from outings to sports activities, business, companies, technology, movies, fashion or employment.

Opting for the .fr TLD as its domain name was the obvious choice for a site that lists the Twitter accounts of one of the largest cities in France.
