With more than 4.4 million .fr domain names and 2.4% growth in 2025, the .fr top-level domain appeals to both individuals and businesses, playing an active role in the digital transformation. The .fr is “made” in France by Afnic and sells for €5.07 through 350 registrars, which are accredited distributors.
Understanding how the price of a .fr domain name is structured requires acknowledging the human and technical investment required to provide a reliable, secure, responsible and sustainable service.
The .fr is much more than that.
Every euro collected goes towards maintaining a strong infrastructure, ensuring the stability of the .fr TLD and its users’ digital sovereignty. It also promotes innovation through research and development programs aimed at combating abuse, strengthening security and reducing the environmental impact of the digital sector.
A portion of all sales is dedicated to promoting the .fr, which helps to increase its attractiveness and visibility. In addition, we reinvest 11% of our yearly .fr revenue in public-interest initiatives and the creation of digital commons, promoting an open Internet model that benefits everyone. We also give at least €1.3 million per year to our Foundation for Digital Solidarity, which operates under the auspices of the Fondation de France and supports projects aimed at improving universal access to digital technologies.
Choosing a .fr domain name means adopting a model that combines reliability, innovation, social responsibility and digital sovereignty to serve the common good.

About Afnic
Afnic is the acronym for Association Française pour le Nommage Internet en Coopération, the French Network Information Centre. The registry has been appointed by the French government to manage domain names under the .fr Top Level Domain. Afnic also manages the .re (Reunion Island), .pm (Saint-Pierre and Miquelon), .tf (French Southern and Antarctic Territories), .wf (Wallis and Futuna) and .yt (Mayotte) French Overseas TLDs.
In addition to managing French TLDs, Afnic’s role is part of a wider public interest mission, which is to contribute on a daily basis, thanks to the efforts of its teams and its members, to a secure and stable internet, open to innovation and in which the French internet community plays a leading role. As part of that mission, Afnic, a non-profit organization, has committed to devoting 11% of its Revenues from managing .fr Top Level Domain to actions of general interest, in particular by transferring €1.3 million each year to the Afnic Foundation for Digital Solidarity.
Afnic is also the back-end registry for the companies as well as local and regional authorities that have chosen to have their own TLD, such as .paris, .bzh, .alsace, .corsica, .mma, .ovh, .leclerc and .sncf.
Established in 1997 and based in Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines, Afnic currently has nearly 90 employees.
