For the fourth year running and in line with the 2012 and 2013 editions in which dozens of stakeholders in the French Internet community took part, this new Open Day of the Afnic Scientific Council will be held in two sessions:  tutorials in the morning and a seminar in the afternoon.
Its theme will be:

 

“The Internet of Things: situation report, issues and prospects.”

 

On the menu:

Morning – Tutorials

In the morning, two tutorials will be held:

  • The first tutorial on routing in sensor networks, entitled “Routing in (industrial) sensor networks: Technical Options“, will be given by Pascal Thubert (Cisco);
  • The second tutorial, at the crossroads of the Internet of Things and Big Data, is entitled “Internet of Big Data things, Home Automation & Big Data: a practical example“. It will be moderated by Bruno Spiquel (Absolight).

Afternoon – Seminar

The afternoon seminar will have two phases:

  • Firstly, an opening session will inform the public about the R&D carried out by Afnic and its Scientific Council, including a presentation of the preliminary results of the Technology Backdrop Survey – 2014 edition;
  • Specialists on the Internet of Things will then address the main theme of the seminar. Laurent Toutain (Télécom Bretagne)Marylin Arndt (Orange)Thierry Monteil (LAAS)Mathias Herberts (Cityzen Data) and Yannick Delibie (Kerlink) will provide further scientific and technical viewpoints on the topic.

The final program will be published shortly.

The main purpose of these annual meetings is to provide an update on the developments of the Internet, whether in scientific uses and spinoff, assess their potential impact on the Internet naming systems and study the prospects. They are open to members of the scientific and technical Internet community with a basic culture in ICT.

  • The Afnic Scientific Council Open Day will be held in the premises of the Institut Mines-Télécom (Télécom ParisTech), 46 rue Barrault, 75013 Paris.
  • Participation in the event is free of charge, but registration is required.

Afnic is the acronym for Association Française pour le Nommage Internet en Coopération, the French Network Information Centre. The registry has been appointed by the French government to manage domain names under the .fr Top Level Domain.
