The digital divide is a fact, and glaring inequalities in Internet access continue to exist. The purpose of this workshop is to discuss ways of fighting the digital divide, to show how the Internet can be used positively by the most isolated populations and to promote community spirit.

About the Internet Governance Forum – France
This new edition of the Forum on Internet Governance – France should be seen against the backdrop of a flexible international network based on cooperation and discussion. Its purpose is to provide everyone with an opportunity to meet and discuss all of the national stakeholders involved in the digital economy. Like its regional and global counterparts, it is not designed to result in declarations or decisions, but to help clarify the issues involved, and thus achieve mutual understanding and cooperation.

About the Internet Society France
The Internet Society is a non-profit organization founded in 1992 for the development, progress and use of the Internet for the benefit of people worldwide. It is the host organization for the technical groups responsible for Internet infrastructure standards, including the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF) and the Internet Architecture Board (IAB).
To date, the Internet Society World has 107 Chapters and some 68,857 members. The French chapter of the Internet Society is the representative in France of users, and includes all of the professions in the digital economy, including experts, academics, associations, companies, etc. The Internet Society France discusses and takes action on all of the issues facing the network, including uses, legislation, personal data, infrastructure deployment, resource management and governance. The Internet Society France is recognized as an At-Large organization of ICANN, which identifies groups representative of the Internet community.
About Afnic
Afnic is the acronym for Association Française pour le Nommage Internet en Coopération, the French Network Information Centre. The registry has been appointed by the French government to manage domain names under the .fr Top Level Domain. Afnic also manages the .re (Reunion Island), .pm (Saint-Pierre and Miquelon), .tf (French Southern and Antarctic Territories), .wf (Wallis and Futuna) and .yt (Mayotte) French Overseas TLDs.
In addition to managing French TLDs, Afnic’s role is part of a wider public interest mission, which is to contribute on a daily basis, thanks to the efforts of its teams and its members, to a secure and stable internet, open to innovation and in which the French internet community plays a leading role. As part of that mission, Afnic, a non-profit organization, has committed to devoting 11% of its Revenues from managing .fr Top Level Domain to actions of general interest, in particular by transferring €1.3 million each year to the Afnic Foundation for Digital Solidarity.
Afnic is also the back-end registry for the companies as well as local and regional authorities that have chosen to have their own TLD, such as .paris, .bzh, .alsace, .corsica, .mma, .ovh, .leclerc and .sncf.
Established in 1997 and based in Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines, Afnic currently has nearly 90 employees.
