Afnic launched its first communication contest for its distributors – accredited .fr registrars -from 1 May to 6 October 2024. The aim? Promoting the benefits of .fr domain names by encouraging registrars to use the communication materials developed by Afnic.
Twenty registrars showed off their creative skills in their submissions for this contest designed to highlight the advantages of choosing a .fr domain name.
A keen interest among registrars
This initial challenge created a buzz among the registrars, leading to 20 applications submitted to Afnic (+5 outside of the deadline, after the end of the contest). and very positive feedback.
One important point to emphasise: .fr domain name registrations and commercial performance were not the focus of the contest. Earmarking communication as the contest criteria was an easy choice for Afnic as a means of providing equal opportunities to all registrars, including the smallest structures and English-speaking structures.
The big surprise was that so many of them chose to take their shot…
And be rewarded!
The winners represent a broad spectrum, from registrars managing over one million domain names to specialised entities managing less than a hundred names. Yet they all felt a connection with the spirit of the contest.
A spirit that reflects Afnic’s DNA, one that has always sought to include the Internet community as a whole in order to create a common vision of a secure and stable Internet, open to innovations and in which cooperation (the C in Afnic) plays a central role.
The winners received a grant in the form of credits valid for their upcoming registration operations for .fr domain names.

The 3 winners of the “Best .fr page”
The winners of the best page category (homepage, product, blog article, etc.) promoting the .fr TLD on their own website are:
AMEN, PLANET BOURGOGNE and ORDIPAT.
The winners of the “Best communication”
The registrars with the best social media communication (or on other digital or paper media) promoting the .fr TLD are:
NAMEBAY, RANXPLORER, OVH and HOSTINGER.
The “Afnic Panel’s Favourite award”
Awarded to the participant who most impressed the panel with their creativity in promoting the .fr TLD: LWS.
LWS took home the main prize, €10,000 to spend on their upcoming registration operations for .fr domain names, and a lunch with the Afnic Customer team.

Afnic would like to congratulate and sincerely thank all of the participants and all of the registrars contacted for this challenge!
As well as generating submissions, the challenge provided an opportunity for the Customer Service teams to get in touch with the 330 registrars by phone to talk about various domain name-related subjects, and promotion in particular. The contest fostered a context of exchange that provided precious feedback for the Afnic teams and the registrars themselves, and strengthened our ties.
The results achieved by the registrars participating in the challenge are a textbook example of the professionalism and commitment they epitomise on a daily basis. Registrars are a vital link in the process of registering a .fr domain name and connecting it with operational services (email, website, etc.).
So a huge thank you to all of them and congratulations once again to the participants and winners. We look forward to seeing what next year’s challenge will bring!

Afnic cannot receive requests for registration or renewal of domain names directly; nor any requests for operations of a technical and/or administrative nature.
The registrars are your point of contact if you want your very own .fr domain name.
Registrars are the service providers (Internet access providers, hosters, web agencies, etc.) in charge of the creation, renewal, transfer, change of holder or deletion of your domain names. They also provide their expertise and associated services such as email addresses, website creation and hosting, and tools to secure your online identity.
