Fully integrated into the French government’s “Digital Transition” program, which was launched on November 13, 2012 by the Ministry for Industrial Recovery and the General Directorate for Competitiveness, Industry and Services (DGCIS), the Association Transition Numérique Plus (ATN+) now includes Afnic among its members. The purpose of ATN+ is to help VSEs and SMEs adopt new digital applications and integrate the technologies involved to improve their competitiveness. To do so, “Transition Numérique Plus” will be backed by regional Digital Consultants.

With this partnership, Afnic pursues its commitment to the digital transition of VSEs / SMEs.

  • For Mathieu Weill, CEO of AFNIC “The purpose of Afnic is to help French market players, VSEs and SMEs in particular, play a leading role in the digital economy. The .fr TLD is a great means of serving that purpose, because it is the hallmark of the Internet “made in France”. We are convinced that Transition Numérique Plus will give a new impetus to the presence of our country’s companies on the Internet, and are delighted to be part of such an excellent initiative.”
  • Laurent Pontegnier, CEO of ATN+, stresses the importance of having Afnic as one of the association’s members. “As a key player on the Internet, with values similar to those of our association, we welcome the presence of Afnic within ATN+. It also confirms the interest of VSEs / SMEs in the digital transition. Our work together will be worthwhile and productive.”

To find out more about ATN+:

The French Government’s “Digital Transition” program aims to help VSEs and SMEs appropriate new digital applications and integrate the technologies involved to improve their competitiveness. As an initiative of the Ministry of Productive Recovery and the General Directorate for Competitiveness, Industry and Services (DGCIS), the Transition Numérique Plus Association includes the partners in the Government’s “Digital Transition” program. Mainly consisting of IT companies and institutional partners, the association brings together the market players most concerned by the digital transition of VSEs / SMEs. The objective is to assist these companies in learning how to use digital applications through a network of 500 digital consultants installed at the local level (Chambers of Commerce and Industry, Chambers of Trades and Crafts, Deposit and Consignment Offices, etc.).

About Afnic

Afnic is the acronym for Association Française pour le Nommage Internet en Coopération, the French Network Information Centre. The registry has been appointed by the French government to manage domain names under the .fr Top Level Domain. Afnic also manages the .re (Reunion Island), .pm (Saint-Pierre and Miquelon), .tf (French Southern and Antarctic Territories), .wf (Wallis and Futuna) and .yt (Mayotte) French Overseas TLDs.

In addition to managing French TLDs, Afnic’s role is part of a wider public interest mission, which is to contribute on a daily basis, thanks to the efforts of its teams and its members, to a secure and stable internet, open to innovation and in which the French internet community plays a leading role. As part of that mission, Afnic, a non-profit organization, has committed to devoting 11% of its Revenues from managing .fr Top Level Domain to actions of general interest, in particular by transferring €1.3 million each year to the Afnic Foundation for Digital Solidarity.
Afnic is also the back-end registry for the companies as well as local and regional authorities that have chosen to have their own TLD, such as .paris, .bzh, .alsace, .corsica, .mma, .ovh, .leclerc and .sncf.

Established in 1997 and based in Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines, Afnic currently has nearly 90 employees.
