With a growth of 2.1% in 2016, .fr is still among the most dynamic top level domains in Europe, in terms of volumes of domain names ranking 4^th continent-wide*.

The continued growth of .fr: a community success

Crossing the 3 million milestone for .fr is primarily the result of a collective effort by all stakeholders in the French Internet community. Afnic acknowledges the commitment of all its partners, first and foremost the Afnic-accredited registrars, but also all the registrants of .fr domain names, both professionals and individuals. Afnic thanks them for their trust in “Made in France” brand on the Internet.

Simplicity and efficiency to promote the development of .fr

The collegial work carried out by Afnic, based on exchanges with and the experiences of users, has helped simplify the procedure required to register a .fr address. Today, any person or company with a mailing address in France or in the European Union can register a .fr domain name, quickly, simply and affordably.

.fr domain name holders support digital inclusion

3 million .fr domain names are equally as many opportunities to make the Internet accessible to the greatest number, and reduce digital exclusion. As part of that effort, Afnic donates 90% of the profits generated by .fr activities to its self-named Foundation for digital inclusion(www.fondation-afnic.fr), which funds field projects throughout France.

Afnic is the acronym for Association Française pour le Nommage Internet en Coopération, the French Network Information Centre. The registry has been appointed by the French government to manage domain names under the .fr Top Level Domain. Afnic also manages the .re (Reunion Island), .pm (Saint-Pierre and Miquelon), .tf (French Southern and Antarctic Territories), .wf (Wallis and Futuna) and .yt (Mayotte) French Overseas TLDs.
