AFNIC and the .fr Top Level Domain had a variety of changes during Mr. Gorichon’s term. The organization’s structure was recently reinforced when it was appointed official Registry of the .fr Top Level Domain. .fr has been lauded for several years as one of the Top Level Domains seeing the most substantial growth at the global level.
Mr. Gorichon emphasized that:
“This great step forward is, from all indications, due to the goodwill, the pragmatism and the patience of the administrators and, perhaps even more importantly, to the energy, constancy and the serious, professional face that Mathieu Weill and everyone at AFNIC have been able to put forward, without fault.?
It is in this opportunities-rich context that Jean-Pierre Dardayrol is taking over as Chairman of AFNIC.
On this topic, he adds:
“AFNIC’s business is at the crossroads of a number of issues. I’m excited about and that make up the fabric of my professional life: STICs (Information and Communications Sciences and Technologies), the services provision to businesses and individuals, and security. With numerous successes to its credit, AFNIC needs to work for the consolidation of its role as a force for the development of the Internet through research and development projects, continually strengthening the DNS infrastructure, and raising awareness among companies, local authorities and individuals of the stakes involved in domain names.?
Jean-Pierre Dardayrol, Mining Engineer, first worked in the world of research on real time software then in strategic planning. From 1986 to 1997, he held a variety of posts at the head of the French National Postal Service and at the Ministry of Industry for the Electronic Communications Sector. From 1987 to 2003 he led interministerial organizations in charge of infrastructure projects and the technical policy for the development of electronic administration. Since 2003, he works as an advisor and inspector for the General Council for Industry, Energy and Technologies, mainly in the area of modernizing public organizations and information systems security.

About Afnic

Afnic is the acronym for Association Française pour le Nommage Internet en Coopération, the French Network Information Centre. The registry has been appointed by the French government to manage domain names under the .fr Top Level Domain. Afnic also manages the .re (Reunion Island), .pm (Saint-Pierre and Miquelon), .tf (French Southern and Antarctic Territories), .wf (Wallis and Futuna) and .yt (Mayotte) French Overseas TLDs.

In addition to managing French TLDs, Afnic’s role is part of a wider public interest mission, which is to contribute on a daily basis, thanks to the efforts of its teams and its members, to a secure and stable internet, open to innovation and in which the French internet community plays a leading role. As part of that mission, Afnic, a non-profit organization, has committed to devoting 11% of its Revenues from managing .fr Top Level Domain to actions of general interest, in particular by transferring €1.3 million each year to the Afnic Foundation for Digital Solidarity.
Afnic is also the back-end registry for the companies as well as local and regional authorities that have chosen to have their own TLD, such as .paris, .bzh, .alsace, .corsica, .mma, .ovh, .leclerc and .sncf.

Established in 1997 and based in Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines, Afnic currently has nearly 90 employees.
