The Afnic Foundation for Digital Solidarity celebrates its 10th anniversary. The 130 guests in attendance on 9 December in Paris celebrated a decade of action in support of a more inclusive and unified Internet. An opportunity to look back at these 10 years of activity and some key figures.
Punctuated by music and artistic performances, the Afnic Foundation anniversary evening brought together the members of the Afnic Executive Committee and some of the prize-winners from the past ten years. Five even took to the stage to share their experience, endorsing the diversity of the actions funded. After this look back, the focus turned to the future with a forward-looking round table on the theme “Digital solidarity: building tomorrow together”.
The image shows a round table on the theme ‘Solidarity in the digital age: how to put digital technology at the service of the general interest?’. On stage, we find the moderator Nastasia Hadjadji (on the right) who leads the discussion with a panel of experts composed of Axelle Lemaire, Julia Herriot, Alexandre Giraud, Léa Morgant and Nathalie David. The audience present in front is listening.

The 600 projects supported by the Afnic Foundation have generated:

Since 2015, thousands of children, young people, seniors, families, vulnerable people and people with a disability have benefited from the Afnic Foundation’s support.
What’s next?
Needs are evolving, as are uses. But inclusion, protection, energy savings, equitable access to tools and skills remain central to the issues addressed. Which is why the Afnic Foundation is continuing its work with the same goal: making digital technology a means to achieving and a driver of equality for all.

About Afnic
Afnic is the acronym for Association Française pour le Nommage Internet en Coopération, the French Network Information Centre. The registry has been appointed by the French government to manage domain names under the .fr Top Level Domain. Afnic also manages the .re (Reunion Island), .pm (Saint-Pierre and Miquelon), .tf (French Southern and Antarctic Territories), .wf (Wallis and Futuna) and .yt (Mayotte) French Overseas TLDs.
In addition to managing French TLDs, Afnic’s role is part of a wider public interest mission, which is to contribute on a daily basis, thanks to the efforts of its teams and its members, to a secure and stable internet, open to innovation and in which the French internet community plays a leading role. As part of that mission, Afnic, a non-profit organization, has committed to devoting 11% of its Revenues from managing .fr Top Level Domain to actions of general interest, in particular by transferring €1.3 million each year to the Afnic Foundation for Digital Solidarity.
Afnic is also the back-end registry for the companies as well as local and regional authorities that have chosen to have their own TLD, such as .paris, .bzh, .alsace, .corsica, .mma, .ovh, .leclerc and .sncf.
Established in 1997 and based in Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines, Afnic currently has nearly 90 employees.
