Fighting abuse associated with domain names is at the heart of .fr registry Afnic’s mission. Afnic is now taking a further step in prevention and awareness-raising by publishing a showcase page with indicators in figures of the disputes it has resolved.
The new abuse showcase window shows the number of .fr domain names involved in abuse and handled as part of our dispute resolution.
These indicators, updated quarterly, will allow us to observe how Afnic’s actions evolve in response to trends.
The indicators relate to:
- checks on domain name holders’ particulars;
- ADR (alternative dispute resolution) procedures (SYRELI and PARL Expert);
- identity theft procedures;
- injunctions and rulings of administrative and judicial authorities;
- and registrars’ actions.
As for mediation, this is already the subject of a specific report.

At the center of the screen is a bar chart showing the quarterly evolution of the number of decisions between 2023 and 2025. Two categories are distinguished:
transfer decisions, shown in dark blue and largely predominant,
deletion decisions, shown in purple and in small numbers.
The chart shows a peak in transfer decisions in 2023, followed by a generally stable trend in 2024, and then a slight decrease in 2025. Deletion decisions remain marginal throughout the entire period.
The whole is presented within the Afnic website interface, reflecting its visual identity, as part of a transparency and information approach regarding actions taken to combat domain name abuse.
In 2024, figures remain generally stable, around 75 to 80 decisions per quarter, with a slight decrease in the third quarter.
In 2025, a gradual decline is observed, with values ranging from approximately 58 to 67 decisions per quarter.
Deletion decisions remain low throughout the period, generally ranging between 0 and 5 decisions per quarter.
By publishing these new data, Afnic reaffirms its commitment to a safer and more transparent Internet. This approach is part of the drive to raise awareness, to inform and to support all actors – domain name holders, rights holders, registrars, institutions and users – in preventing and combating abuse associated with domain names.
The purpose of the abuse showcase window is to provide public transparency on Afnic’s actions to make sure the .fr domain remains a trusted Internet zone.

About Afnic
Afnic is the acronym for Association Française pour le Nommage Internet en Coopération, the French Network Information Centre. The registry has been appointed by the French government to manage domain names under the .fr Top Level Domain. Afnic also manages the .re (Reunion Island), .pm (Saint-Pierre and Miquelon), .tf (French Southern and Antarctic Territories), .wf (Wallis and Futuna) and .yt (Mayotte) French Overseas TLDs.
In addition to managing French TLDs, Afnic’s role is part of a wider public interest mission, which is to contribute on a daily basis, thanks to the efforts of its teams and its members, to a secure and stable internet, open to innovation and in which the French internet community plays a leading role. As part of that mission, Afnic, a non-profit organization, has committed to devoting 11% of its Revenues from managing .fr Top Level Domain to actions of general interest, in particular by transferring €1.3 million each year to the Afnic Foundation for Digital Solidarity.
Afnic is also the back-end registry for the companies as well as local and regional authorities that have chosen to have their own TLD, such as .paris, .bzh, .alsace, .corsica, .mma, .ovh, .leclerc and .sncf.
Established in 1997 and based in Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines, Afnic currently has nearly 90 employees.
