Afnic, the association responsible for .fr and several French overseas and generic TLDs, is delighted to announce that following several public calls for tenders, it has been chosen by the French government to manage the .pm (Saint-Pierre and Miquelon), .re (Réunion), .tf (French Southern and Antarctic Lands), .wf (Wallis and Futuna) and .yt (Mayotte) domains, and that this display of trust has also been extended to cover the .gf (Guyana), .gp (Guadeloupe) and .mq (Martinique) TLDs.
Transition for .gf, .gp and .mq
A transition is being prepared for Guyana, Guadeloupe and Martinique’s TLDs, previously operated by organisations with no connection to Afnic and with which discussions have been initiated to organise the hand-over from a technical and legal standpoint before the end of 2026, while retaining all of the rights acquired by holders of these domain names.
Special rules will be applied by to .gf, .gp and .mq. during this transition period and have been incorporated into the new version of the Afnic Naming Policy which entered into force on 6 July 2026
French sovereign digital spaces
These top-level domains offer the eight overseas territories their own French sovereign spaces which also act as rallying points for their local digital communities. This is fully in line with Afnic’s vision and actions to promote a trusted “Internet made in France” open to everyone.
A collaborative approach with local Internet stakeholders
The public service concessions assigned to Afnic also provide for the development of initiatives led alongside local communities to encourage take-up of these top-level domains by overseas businesses, particularly within the framework of support programmes for VSEs/SMEs designed to boost their online presence.
The management and development of the eight TLDs corresponding to the overseas territories governed by the French Postal and Electronic Communications Code (CPCE) have been entrusted to Afnic. This decision was officialised in two ministerial decrees published in the French Official Journal on 22 June 2026:

About Afnic
Afnic is the acronym for Association Française pour le Nommage Internet en Coopération, the French Network Information Centre. The registry has been appointed by the French government to manage domain names under the .fr Top Level Domain. Afnic also manages the .re (Reunion Island), .pm (Saint-Pierre and Miquelon), .tf (French Southern and Antarctic Territories), .wf (Wallis and Futuna) and .yt (Mayotte) French Overseas TLDs.

Afnic is also the back-end registry for the companies as well as local and regional authorities that have chosen to have their own TLD, such as .paris, .bzh, .alsace, .corsica, .mma, .ovh, .leclerc and .sncf.
Established in 1997 and based in Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines, Afnic currently has nearly 90 employees.
