Afnic, the registry for the .fr domain, joins Cyber Campus in promoting awareness of security issues.

Bringing together as it does the domain’s main French and international players, the Cyber Campus is destined to become the emblematic cybersecurity venue.

The Cyber Campus project, launched by the French president, allows companies large and small, State departments, training institutions, researchers and associations all to be accommodated at the same site, in the La Défense business district to the west of Paris.

Beyond this operational site, the Cyber Campus is first and foremost a project aimed at promoting dialogue and sharing among all the various stakeholders in digital security, with actions designed to bring together the cybersecurity community and develop synergies among its various players.

So far more than 170 entities, from a range of business sectors, have confirmed their commitment.

Becoming a Partner of Cyber Campus is a natural fit with Afnic’s mission of general interest and cooperation, Afnic being a non-profit association working for a safe and stable Internet open to innovations.

As the body responsible for the hardware and software infrastructure behind French domain name operations and declared an essential service operator, Afnic rigorously oversees and ensures the stability and security of the Internet in France.

Security and innovation are at the heart of Afnic’s commitments: security is a priority in order to improve and strengthen data protection measures in all processes and particularly the security of the DNS protocol, for users, registrar clients, services, applications and all resources connected to the Internet.

Afnic will actively support this collaborative platform to share its know-how and communicate more closely and easily with the .fr ecosystem in order to raise awareness of the security issues to which Afnic gives particular attention in its work: abuse of the DNS (domain name system) and security of Internet infrastructures.

Afnic is excited about becoming actively involved in this collective project that brings together the cybersecurity community in a dynamic of excellence and digital sovereignty.

About Afnic

Afnic is the acronym for Association Française pour le Nommage Internet en Coopération, the French Network Information Centre. The registry has been appointed by the French government to manage domain names under the .fr Top Level Domain. Afnic also manages the .re (Reunion Island), .pm (Saint-Pierre and Miquelon), .tf (French Southern and Antarctic Territories), .wf (Wallis and Futuna) and .yt (Mayotte) French Overseas TLDs.

In addition to managing French TLDs, Afnic’s role is part of a wider public interest mission, which is to contribute on a daily basis, thanks to the efforts of its teams and its members, to a secure and stable internet, open to innovation and in which the French internet community plays a leading role. As part of that mission, Afnic, a non-profit organization, has committed to devoting 11% of its Revenues from managing .fr Top Level Domain to actions of general interest, in particular by transferring €1.3 million each year to the Afnic Foundation for Digital Solidarity.
Afnic is also the back-end registry for the companies as well as local and regional authorities that have chosen to have their own TLD, such as .paris, .bzh, .alsace, .corsica, .mma, .ovh, .leclerc and .sncf.

Established in 1997 and based in Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines, Afnic currently has nearly 90 employees.
