09/03/2026

The .fr top-tevel domain is a vital tool for the digital transformation of our economy. And its growing popularity has been resoundingly affirmed with over 4.5 million .fr domain names registered to date. It is the preferred Internet TLD among VSEs/SMEs: 62% of these businesses with a domain name opted for .fr as their first choice (vs 33% for .com), establishing its pivotal role in digital sovereignty.

After a robust start to the year, the .fr TLD has reached the 4.5 million domain names milestone. The number of .fr domain names is increasing annually and growth of the national TLD has been particularly strong in 2026. An additional 200,000 .fr domain names were registered in the past 10 months, whereas previously only 100,000 names were registered over a 13-month period.

In October 2024, the national TLD passed the 4.2 million domain names mark, before reaching 4.3 million in November 2025. Less than one year later, it crossed the 4.5 million domain names milestone in September 2026. The twofold gain in names over a shorter period is evidence of this shift in pace.

This momentum continues on the back of a year marked by a historic 853,000 creations in 2025. As of May 2026, 54 of the 100 highest rating days for .fr domain name creations since the start of the year had been recorded, confirming the exceptional vitality of the national TLD.

This growth is proof that .fr is continuing to take hold among users. Businesses, associations, local authorities and private individuals still represent the majority of those choosing this trusted TLD, managed and operated in France, as a means to affirm their sovereign digital identity.
