Technology Backdrop Survey

The objective of this survey is to build forecasts over 10 years, with the following observations:

It all started in 2008 when the AFNIC Scientific Council (SC) asked the question: "Is it possible to have a shared vision for technology trends in the medium-to-long term? "

To answer this question, the SC has opted for a recurring survey, called "Technology Backdrop Survey" and the results are analyzed, interpreted and shared internally at AFNIC and with the Internet scientific and technical community.

For the purposes of the survey, professionals and ICT users are invited to answer an online questionnaire for each edition.

The objective of this survey is to build forecasts over 10 years, with the following observations:

  • The consensus is the basis of the backdrop, which highlights the broad orientations;

  • Predictions that oppose two subpopulations of respondents ("divergence into two schools") are used to integrate into the backdrop alternative scenarios with strong uncertainties.

The Scientific Council has piloted several editions of the backdrop survey, in partnership with INIT Marketing (a professional statistics and data analysis company). The full and summary reports of these editions are online:
