The Afnic Gender Equality Index continues to make headway. Having achieved 98/100 in 2021 and maintained this score in 2022 and 2023, Afnic moved ahead one point in 2024 with a score of 99/1001. Proof that improvement is always possible, and that real equality is indeed not just wishful thinking but a concrete target for Afnic.
Key figure
in 2024
While it may be mandatory since 2018 for all companies with 50 or more employees to publish a gender equality index on an annual basis, for Afnic it is more than just an obligation: it is an opportunity to further its commitment to inclusion. An opportunity to take stock of equal pay issues and to evaluate the concrete actions put in place to reduce gender disparities.
Afnic’s team of 97 employees covers a variety of professions, and continues to gain ground when it comes to equal employment. At year-end 2024, women represented 48% of the total workforce and 31% of employees specialised in technical professions (R&D, networks, development, etc.), a figure that continues to post growth. And the majority of our Management Committee members are currently women (4/7).
The Gender Equality Index is a tool that measures the pay gap between women and men within a company. It is calculated based on 4 to 5 indicators depending on the size of the company:
- the gender pay gap
- the difference in annual increases
- increases on return from maternity leave
- the share of the under-represented gender in the company’s ten highest salaries
- the gap in promotions (only in companies with more than 250 employees)
“The admission of women to full equality would be the most convincing mark of civilization; it would double the intellectual forces of the human race and its chances of finding happiness.” Stendhal, 1817.

About Afnic
Afnic is the acronym for Association Française pour le Nommage Internet en Coopération, the French Network Information Centre. The registry has been appointed by the French government to manage domain names under the .fr Top Level Domain. Afnic also manages the .re (Reunion Island), .pm (Saint-Pierre and Miquelon), .tf (French Southern and Antarctic Territories), .wf (Wallis and Futuna) and .yt (Mayotte) French Overseas TLDs.
In addition to managing French TLDs, Afnic’s role is part of a wider public interest mission, which is to contribute on a daily basis, thanks to the efforts of its teams and its members, to a secure and stable internet, open to innovation and in which the French internet community plays a leading role. As part of that mission, Afnic, a non-profit organization, has committed to devoting 11% of its Revenues from managing .fr Top Level Domain to actions of general interest, in particular by transferring €1.3 million each year to the Afnic Foundation for Digital Solidarity.
Afnic is also the back-end registry for the companies as well as local and regional authorities that have chosen to have their own TLD, such as .paris, .bzh, .alsace, .corsica, .mma, .ovh, .leclerc and .sncf.
Established in 1997 and based in Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines, Afnic currently has nearly 90 employees.
