More than simply a mandatory Index, Afnic sees this system as an opportunity to pay ever greater attention to the equality of the members within our team. Our gender mix, and more generally our diversity, ensure a balance and complementarity the impacts of which are clear every day in our exchanges and in the quality of life in the workplace at Afnic.

Our association employs 80 people in a variety of professions. At the end of 2021, our workforce was 47.5% female and 52.5% male and our Management Committee had equal numbers of men and women. 30% of our employees with technical expertise (R&D, networks, development, etc.) are women, a proportion that has been increasing for a number of years.

The Gender Equality Index is a measure enshrined in the French Law of 5 September 2018 concerning the freedom to choose one’s future career. It is calculated based on 4 to 5 indicators depending on the size of the company:

  • gap in basic and variable pay + personal bonuses;
  • gap in distribution of personal pay rises;
  • % of female employees given a pay rise on returning from maternity leave;
  • no. of women and men in the top ten highest paid employees:
  • gap in distribution of promotions (only in companies with more than 250 employees)

About Afnic

Afnic is the acronym for Association Française pour le Nommage Internet en Coopération, the French Network Information Centre. The registry has been appointed by the French government to manage domain names under the .fr Top Level Domain. Afnic also manages the .re (Reunion Island), .pm (Saint-Pierre and Miquelon), .tf (French Southern and Antarctic Territories), .wf (Wallis and Futuna) and .yt (Mayotte) French Overseas TLDs.

In addition to managing French TLDs, Afnic’s role is part of a wider public interest mission, which is to contribute on a daily basis, thanks to the efforts of its teams and its members, to a secure and stable internet, open to innovation and in which the French internet community plays a leading role. As part of that mission, Afnic, a non-profit organization, has committed to devoting 11% of its Revenues from managing .fr Top Level Domain to actions of general interest, in particular by transferring €1.3 million each year to the Afnic Foundation for Digital Solidarity.
Afnic is also the back-end registry for the companies as well as local and regional authorities that have chosen to have their own TLD, such as .paris, .bzh, .alsace, .corsica, .mma, .ovh, .leclerc and .sncf.

Established in 1997 and based in Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines, Afnic currently has nearly 90 employees.
