Today Afnic announced the appointment of Gabrielle Apfelbaum as Communications Director. She will be joining the Management Committee in this new position and will be tasked with promoting Afnic’s identity and brand image and the Réussir-en.fr (Succeed with .fr) programme which raises the awareness of 30,000 VSEs/SMEs and students every year regarding their online presence. She will set out the internal and external communication strategy and ensure the smooth implementation of projects with Afnic’s different target audiences.

Gabrielle Apfelbaum will oversee the team within the communications department and will report directly to Afnic CEO Pierre Bonis. She will also be responsible for managing Afnic’s performance and the actions of its service providers within the communication remit.

Afnic is an Operator of Essential Services; an association created in 1997 and originating within Inria, Afnic was assigned a general interest mission by the French government which has since been renewed: the proper functioning of the French Internet. Afnic is the registry office and back-end operator of the .fr TLD and a number of other major TLDs. As such, it participates in French and international Internet governance bodies.

Before joining Afnic, Gabrielle Apfelbaum headed up the Barthélémy Conseil press relations agency specialised in tech and innovation subjects, which she co-created in 2015. Between 2013 and 2015 she held the post of Press Relations consultant within the Sine Nomine group. From 2010 to 2012 she was Communications Manager at Ni Putes Ni Soumises. Gabrielle Apfelbaum began her career at the Dufresne Corrigan Scarlett publicity agency in 2004 as Brand Manager then New Business Executive up until 2010.

Gabrielle Apfelbaum is 42 and is a graduate of Sciences-Po and Complutense University of Madrid (Political Sciences, Art History and Gender Studies).

About Afnic

Afnic is the acronym for Association Française pour le Nommage Internet en Coopération, the French Network Information Centre. The registry has been appointed by the French government to manage domain names under the .fr Top Level Domain. Afnic also manages the .re (Reunion Island), .pm (Saint-Pierre and Miquelon), .tf (French Southern and Antarctic Territories), .wf (Wallis and Futuna) and .yt (Mayotte) French Overseas TLDs.

Afnic is also the back-end registry for the companies as well as local and regional authorities that have chosen to have their own TLD, such as .paris, .bzh, .alsace, .corsica, .mma, .ovh, .leclerc and .sncf.

Established in 1997 and based in Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines, Afnic currently has nearly 90 employees.
