Opening of .fr for the registration of domain names with 1 or 2 character(s)

As of December 9, 2014, it will be possible to register a domain number consisting of only one or two character(s) under the .fr TLD.
Domain names consisting of one or two alphanumeric characters are going to be available for registration under the .fr TLD.
The opening will take place according to a specific timetable, in several phases:
From 8 December 2014, 14:00 UTC, 9 December 2014 11:00 UTC+1 to 9 February 2015, 23:59 UTC+1
Period during which rights holders can apply for the registration of their domain name(s) with 1 & 2 characters.
|From 16 February 2015, 15:00 UTC+1, to 17 March 2015, 14:59 UTC+1||Period during which any interested party can apply for the registration of a domain name with 1 & 2 characters, provided it has not already been registered during the Sunrise phase. During this phase, Afnic will gradually apply price discounts.|
|Opening for the general public||17 March 2015, 15:00 UTC+1||From this date onwards, any person can register domain names with 1 & 2 characters that were not registered during the Sunrise or Landrush phases.|
The first-come, first-served principle applies to all of these phases.
Applicants must comply with the Naming Policy of the .fr TLD and with all the applicable registry policies at the time of the opening.
For the time being, the other Internet Top-Level Domains within the French namespace currently managed by Afnic (.re, .pm, .tf, .yt, and .wf) are not affected by the opening.

Afnic (the French acronym for "Association Française pour le Nommage Internet en Coopération" i.e. the French Network Information Centre), is a non-profit association created in 1997. Appointed by the State to manage domain names under the .fr TLD, it promotes use of the namespace by entrepreneurs and individuals. As the incumbent manager of the .fr TLD with more than 2.9 million domain names in the .fr namespace to date, it is also positioned as a provider of technical solutions and registry services: it currently manages 14 projects for new gTLDs, including .paris and .bzh. Afnic is located in Saint-Quentin en Yvelines, where its staff of 80 works for the common good of the French Internet.
